On this day, 169 years ago, Emily Bronte died at just 30 years old from tuberculosis. Emily is most well known for being the author of Wuthering Heights.
Wuthering Heights is now considered a classic of todays English Literature. Emily was the third-eldest of the four surviving Brontë sisters and between the youngest Anne and her brother Branwell. Strangely Emily wrote under the mane of Ellis Bell?
Emily’s health is said to have been weakened by the very harsh local climate she lived in and possibly by the unsanitary conditions at home too. Her brother Branwell died suddenly on September 24, 1848 and at his funeral service is where Emily is said to have caught some form of cold which quickly turned into then inflammation of her lungs and eventually led to the reasoning of her death. As her condition worsened Emily actually rejected medical help. Come the 19th December, 1848 Emily was so ill she was talking in gasps to her sisters before she finally passed away at 2pm that day.
