It’s another book review time! :D, my September monthly book review is of “How I Magically Messed Up My Life in Four Freakin’ Days” by Megan O’Russell. Now you might recognise that name from previous posts of mine and, you’d be right in thinking so! 😀 I recently reviewed her other novel Girl of Glass and loved it! So when Megan got in contact again to review her recent release, I couldn’t say no! I think she is a truly amazing author and love her different style of writing, a style of writing I didn’t think I’d actually enjoy, but, I really do.
Here is the blurb;
Ever wanted to grow a five-story tall flower in central park? How about fight a deadly battle under the subway tunnels of Manhattan?
Don’t worry. I never wanted to either. But if you’re ever being chased by ladies made of mist and you have to save the girl with the sparkly eyes you’ve never had the guts to say actual words to, there’s an app for that.
I found a magic cell phone, opened an app I shouldn’t have, burned down the set shop for my high school’s theatre, and it was all downhill from there. A drag queen seer who lives under a bridge is my only hope for keeping my mom alive, and I think the cops might be after me for destroying my dad’s penthouse.
But it gets better! Now I’m stuck being the sidekick to the guy who got me into this mess in the first place. It’ll be a miracle if I survive until Monday
So! On with the review. The title “How I Magically Messed Up My Life in Four Freakin’ Days” really struck me, I thought that maybe this book had a little comedy in it? 🙂 and I was right! Bryant, to me, came across as a really funny character and I loved that! It reminded me of how my best friend Laura actually speaks (I know she won’t mind me saying that :P) so this amused me greatly. Also the opening chapter was intriguing to me, because the way he describes himself was very interesting? As it’s like how a person how has a very popular best friend would feel, like they should feel worthy of them being their friend etc. and to me that both made me feel excited for the rest of the book but sad for the character at the same time. I wanted Bryant to become the one that his best friend felt worthy to be friends with, as I thought this main character could be awesome.
Throughout this book you see Bryant as a character change through every chapter that is within this story but he carried on doing the one thing I loved from that beginning and that was, he made me laugh :). The idea of the magic phone at the beginning was something that I was very cautious about but in the end I ended up loving this whole idea! I’m attached to my mobile phone so it actually made me dubious of mine for a bit haha. There were sappy lines, there was drama and there was intensity, which are three things I love within a book 🙂 so this book was fab to me! :D.
10/10 from me and again, Megan thank you so much for giving me this opportunity to read and review your book. You can get yours here; https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32231955-how-i-magically-messed-up-my-life-in-four-freakin-days
