So, for a few months now I have been suffering a little with writers block? I’m not too sure why and you probably wouldn’t of been able to guess due to my posts on here going up as promised every week. But, the blessing of scheduling hey! :D. I have had a lot going on these past few months and this has all evolved around job hunting, I truly never realised how disheartening and upsetting it can be looking for jobs and not even getting phone calls back from certain places when promised them even if its good or bad news! So, I am very happy that for the past few months now I have had posts scheduled and set so I’ve been keeping on top of everything! Which, I am sure, I’m not the only one to do! Because my head has just really not been in the place for writing to be fair? Especially not personal blogs anyway.
But! I will admit it has not only been writers block, I have had massive “readers block”? Could you call it that? I think you can, well, I am anyway! I have not, for the absolute life of me been able to get my head into a good book! Which for me as a huge book worm has been so unsettling and quite agitating to be fair. Because not even sitting down reading has been a good way to relax as I’ve just not been able too!
However, I was browsing iBooks and I came across this book by Alex Caan, “Cut to the bone”. Now, first off, the title struck me a bit! I thought “hmm would I enjoy that?” But then I read the Blurb and, I just knew this was the book to get me out of my funk…
“One Missing Girl. Two Million Suspects.
Ruby is a vlogger, a rising star of YouTube and a heroine to millions of teenage girls.
And she’s missing . . .
But she’s an adult – nothing to worry about, surely?
Until the video’s uploaded . . .
Ruby, in the dirt, pleading for her life.
Enter Detective Inspector Kate Riley; the Met’s rising star and the head of a new team of investigators with the best resources money can buy. Among them, Detective Sergeant Zain Harris, the poster boy for multiracial policing. But can Kate wholly trust him – and more importantly, can she trust herself around him?
As hysteria builds amongst the press and Ruby’s millions of fans, Kate and her team are under pressure to get results, and fast, but as they soon discover, the world of YouTube vloggers and social media is much darker than anyone could have imagined.
And the videos keep coming . .”
Amazing right? And, I was not wrong. Taking me on an absolute rollercoaster of a journey, especially mentally, “Cut to the bone” brought out in me my inner book worm again! It is an amazing murder mystery which throws you absolutely everywhere! Right up until you figure out who is doing this! The main character Ruby Day stuck out to me a lot, she is portrayed as such a sweet being who just wants the best for everyone, everyone bar herself. She never seems to care too much about her and her well being, but, she is all about her subscribers feelings that she has on YouTube and I think this stuck out the most to me because I recently started uploading Mini Vlogs on YouTube but, I have also watched people Vlog for a good 2-3 years now?! And it just made me realise how much of a risk these people are putting themselves in for our own entertainment? It’s crazy really, because social media is a constant, it never sleeps! And it made me think more into the whole Marina Joyce “#savemarina” situation (which happened across twitter in August this year) a lot more and how closely this book related to it but this just showed the reality of what a lot of people were fearing was happening to Marina. It brought this situation, for me, much more to life even though it was in no way related! Which I found awesome!
Alex Caan in my opinion brings the theme of murder mystery into the 21st century in an absolute amazing way! And, I would recommend it to absolutely anyone that enjoys say the BBC TV series “The Fall” because this gripped me as much as that did. So, 10/10 book for me! Please please go read it, you will not regret it! And thank you for bringing me out of my funk Alex! 😀
With love, Charlotte x
