1641, October 23rd: The Irish Rebelion! โ˜˜๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

On this day 375 years ago the Irish Rebelion happened! โ˜˜๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ช

The cause of this Rebelion was due to a fear of non-Catholic forces fro England invading on the Catholic Ireland. These forces were the English Long Parlaiment and the Scottish Covenanters, who at the time were defying their current King Charles 1st authority over England. Both the English and the Scottish refused to raise an army when the rebels who were associated with Charles caused the start of the English Civil War, saying they would only put the army down if it was under their control and not the Kings.

This was then when the rebellion broke out in October 1641. What followed this were months upon months of death, until the upper class catholic people, plus their clergy, formed what is known as the Catholic Confederation. Starting in the summer of 1642 the government became a government free from English control.

The Irish Confederate wars continued till 1650. This was then when Oliver Cromwells “New Model Army” decisively defeated the Irish Catholics themselves and reclaimed Ireland also.
