So since starting my 3rd and final year at University in September, I decided it was time to add something a little extra into my time table. Since starting Uni in 2013 I have attempted for the past 2 years to do an internship I just never actually took the plunge and went for it but, this year I did 😀 and I am so pleased I did.
Doing an internship is something I think is really worth while and beneficial for any Uni student and I really would recommend doing one if your timetable will allow it. My first semester time table allowed me to be able to go into Divine Clark (http://www.divineclarkpr.co.uk/) for 1 day a week as I had a day off which opened up a space for me to be able to do it.
I got this idea kick started straight away once getting back into my lectures and I soon found I was up in my careers office having meetings with a lady called Bianca Moon. Within the next week I had sent my CV and cover letter back and fourth to Bianca multiple times where she helped me structure both to the standard it needed to be at to apply, she was an absolute star! I then found the internship opportunity on my Uni careers page and I knew straight away I wanted to apply for this internship. The company was called Divine Clark PR which is based in Beverly, Hull and it sounded like a really great opportunity and place to do this 8 week internship at, so I applied! :). I then got an email regarding meeting up with the lady in charge, Jess Clark, to have a little interview where we spoke and got to know one another well. I instantly liked Jess, I thought she was a very interesting and kind woman, who also seemed to know exactly what she wanted and was very head strong, which I immediately liked. I was then offered the internship there and then where we then discussed days I could go in and work for her. I left the coffee shop we were in and I instantly rang to tell my mum, dad and best friend about my good news! I was so happy I had finally made the step to go ahead with my internship plan.
I began my 8 weeks on the 21st October 2015 where I was to finish on 9th December 2015 and it absolutely flew by! I learned so much from Jess when it came to structuring and rechecking my work, I learned about press releases and how to write them (even writing quite a few myself), I even did a few phone call opportunities which at the time seemed terrifying but.. I got through them, even with a shaky and stuttering voice! And I also went to a meeting which I really enjoyed. I did not however expect to have a piece on Divine Clarks website, which is called “How to write a press release” and here is the link if you would like to check that out 😀 http://www.divineclarkpr.co.uk/local/how-to-write-a-press-release/ it has my face on and everything ;). It’s terribly exciting :D.
Overall I really loved my time at Divine Clark PR, Jess was brilliant to work with and I loved going in and having my Wednesdays with her, she was incredibly kind to me and I really thank her for that! So if you’re reading this Jess, THANK YOU! :D.
Anyway, I hope my readers have a wonderful Christmas and New Year! :D, enjoy your time with your family, friends etc and eat lots of food and get merry on a few bevvys! I know I will!! And I will post in the new year now, 2016! :D. But in the mean time,
With love, Charlotte x
